Curriculum
At Heaton we want a rich, relevant, broad and balanced curriculum that contributes to outstanding learning and achievement, significant growth in pupils’ knowledge, and excellent attitudes to learning.
Our teachers plan the curriculum based on the National Curriculum or Development Matters. They aim to incorporate our PSHCE scheme, Jigsaw, our school values and the needs of our school community into our curriculum. This is plotted onto the school curriculum map through a range of lively and engaging topics based on high quality children’s literature. Each year group plots these topics into the year to make the best use of the seasons, the school grounds and the local area. Trips and visitors are also plotted in to provide a variety of experiences and develop rich vocabulary. Each topic is outlined onto a topic map that ensures curriculum coverage, key skills and objectives. The year groups use multi-week timetables to plan the scheduling of each week so that everything can be achieved and no time is wasted.
