Learning Comes to Life in Reception: Stories, Numbers and New Beginnings

This week in Reception, we have immersed ourselves in our class story The Little Red Hen and have begun drawing our story map. The children have been working very hard to use the images to confidently retell the story.

In maths, we have continued ordering numbers to 20 and have been deepening our understanding by building numbers with cubes and comparing different amounts. We have been exploring the concepts of more and less, as well as finding one more and one less than a given number.

In our creative activities, we have been busy transforming toilet roll tubes into farmyard pigs! It has been wonderful to see the children’s creativity and watch their ideas come to life.

Outdoors, we have been planting lots of seeds, making sure they are carefully spaced so they have room to grow. Now we need to make sure we water them regularly to help them thrive.

Finally, we have put our eggs in the incubator! We are all very excited to see how many chicks will hatch in 21 days—keep your fingers crossed for all ten!
