Reception Admissions

Welcome to Beckfoot Heaton Primary School and Nursery. We are a community school for children aged 2-11, with nursery provision for 2- and 3-year-olds, and a published Admission Number (PAN) of 90 places per Reception year group.

This page provides everything you need to know about applying for Nursery and Reception, as well as transition and support for children starting school.

Nursery Admissions

At Beckfoot Heaton, we provide warmly supportive nursery places for 2- and 3-year-olds, giving them a wonderful start to learning.

Sessions Available

  • 2-year-old nursery – eligibility-based, 15 funded hours per week, check your eligibility here.
  • 3-year-old nursery – universal entitlement of 15 funded hours per week, learn more.
  • 30-hour sessions – for working families who qualify for extended funding, check your eligibility here.

Sessions are available as morning, afternoon, or full-day (30 hours), subject to eligibility and availability.

Admissions Timing

  • 2-year-olds: September and January entry (April if spaces remain).
  • 3-year-olds: September entry after their third birthday, with January/April intakes if places remain.

Transition and Settling In

Before starting, children are invited to a stay-and-play session with their family. Where needed, we can provide a slower, more flexible transition to ensure your child feels confident and secure.

Important: A nursery place at Beckfoot Heaton does not guarantee a Reception place. Reception applications must be made separately via Bradford Local Authority. Apply online here.

Reception Admissions

We welcome 90 children into Reception each September, in line with our PAN and Local Authority agreements. We encourage families to visit our school and attend one of our open days or book a visit by contacting the school office. You can contact us here.

How to Apply

  • Apply online via the Bradford Council Admissions Portal.
  • List Beckfoot Heaton Primary School and Nursery among your preferred schools.
  • Submit your application by 15 January for entry in September 2026.

Places are allocated according to the Local Authority’s Admissions Policy and Criteria, and parents are informed on National Offer Day on the 16 April 2026.

Arrangements for children starting school

Children normally start full-time in Reception in September of the school year in which they turn 5. If your child is not offered a place, you have the right to appeal through the local authority, find out more here.

Transition

We want every child to feel confident, safe, and excited about their first days at school. To support this:

  • In the Summer Term, we hold transition meetings for families to learn about the year ahead.
  • Children are invited to stay and play visits to meet teachers and classmates.
