It has been a busy week at Beckfoot Heaton, as staff and students have engaged in a variety of exciting activities in preparation for our first One Trust Culture Day.
The inspiration behind the One Trust Culture Day stems from feedback gathered through listening sessions with students across all Trust schools. During these sessions, students expressed a desire to learn more about each other’s cultures and backgrounds. The result was a day designed to promote understanding and respect.
We celebrated our diversity while allowing students to learn from one another. It was an opportunity for everyone to gain an appreciation for the cultures represented in our school and to continue working together towards building a stronger sense of belonging and mutual respect. Through activities, discussions, and shared experiences, students were able to reflect on their own identities while learning about the backgrounds of their friends.
Day 1: Exploring Individual Identity
On Wednesday, April 2nd, students explored the concept of personal identity. In the afternoon, students from various year groups created identity maps, reflecting on who they are and the traits that make them individuals. This lesson provided an opportunity for students to explore their own cultural identities while also gaining an appreciation for their peers’ diverse backgrounds.
Day 2: Researching Cultures from Around the World
Thursday, April 3rd, was dedicated to researching cultures from around the globe. Year groups took part in different sessions, learning about the customs, traditions, and histories of countries worldwide.
Day 3: One Trust Culture Day
The excitement continued on Friday, April 4th, with a Culture Day Assembly where students across the school gathered for a special assembly. We discussed the exciting things we’d learnt throughout the week, joined by Beckfoot Trust CEO, Shirley Watson.
Cultural Activities and Global Music
In the afternoon, students were invited to join in an experience featuring music from around the world. Through listening sessions, students reflected on how different songs made them feel and participated in learning dances associated with various cultures. The afternoon also featured fun activities like Identity Pass the Parcel and Wordsearches, where students could share something about their identity and explore countries across the globe.
As another busy term comes to an end at Beckfoot Heaton, we want to take this opportunity to thank our families for all their support day in and day out. We hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable Easter Break.
