6 … in lots of ways

This week in Reception children have been practising their fine motor skills in the playdough area. They have been rolling, pinching, flattening with their hands, indenting, piercing and pushing the playdough to create different things. This week they focused on creating the little boy from our ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ story. Children have been excited to use natural resources to help them develop their curiosity and imagination. They have used small pebbles for eyes and sticks for arms and legs. Children have also been embedding some of their maths skills in playdough. This week the number of the week is 6. Children have used ten-frames to show amounts up to 6 as well making the numeral 6 from playdough. The playdough has helped them to further develop their understanding of number, counting out amounts and recognising numerals. Keep an eye out on Seesaw for our next homework assignment which will focus on Maths!
