At Beckfoot Heaton Primary, we believe that PE is a vital part of the curriculum, allowing children to experience new opportunities, build the basis of a life-long Involvement with sport and achieve their maximum potential.
The Government provides an additional funding to schools each year to improve the provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. Schools must use the funding to make additional and sustainable improvements to the quality of PE and sport we offer.
There are four aspects to our Sports Premium strategy:
- Ensure the high quality teaching of PE – We do this through ongoing professional development and the quality assurance of PE teaching; maintenance of sufficient and appropriate PE equipment.
- Reduce obesity through activity – We do this by providing active playtimes with a range of play equipment and active staff.
- Increase out of school physical activity – We do this by providing before and after school sport based clubs and holiday programmes.
- Participate in competitive sport – We do this by preparing children for local sports tournaments. We use the Sports Premium to fund after school staffing, transport and administration of these events.
